Kidknows Outdoor Thermometer {Review & Giveaway}

Organizing the kids as they go off to school in the morning is always a bit chaotic.  There always seems to be random papers that need to be signed, lunches that need to be made, stray uniform items that need to be located, and the occasional assistance needed in regards to a pony tail or hair clip.

Chicago's unpredictable fall weather seems to be further complicating things lately too.  One day it's cold out and the next it is really warm, making clothing & outerwear decisions rather difficult for the kids to make on their own.

However, our questions on the proper clothing for the weather seem to be behind us now.  The kids can make their own informed decisions with the help of our new KidKnows Outdoor Thermometer we were provided recently for review.

This mercury free thermometer can be applied to an outside window to provide your kids with not only the temperature out there, but with pictures of what apparel is required for it.  Your kids will learn what the "numbers" mean in relation to what they should put on that day, empowering your kids to make their own choices.

Enter to Win:
We are giving away 5 KidKnows Outdoor Thermometers in total.  1 per selected reader.  Simply leave a comment below to be entered to win.

Little Music Lovers

If you've been anxious to introduce the classics to your little ones but weren't sure which ones you should play at which times, I've discovered the perfect collection for your needs.  I was recently sent a sample CD of Little Music Lovers various collections to check out.

This series includes a Bach CD for Activity Time, a Beethoven CD for Story Time, a Mozart CD for Play Time, & a collection of Lullabies CD for Sleep Time.  The twins and I found the music sampling to be pleasant and undistracting.

Better yet, Little Music Lovers believe that by simply adding these melodies into baby's day, you are enhancing and developing their mind in the areas of math and reasoning skills.  So who knows, we may be a tad smarter too?

You'll find these collections available for download on iTunes as well as on CD at Amazon.com.

Full Review Coming Soon: Safety 1st: Complete Air Convertible Car Seat

This week we received one of the new Complete Air Convertible Car Seats by Safety 1st.  This new to the market car seat features their revolutionary new side impact technology.  Additional features include the ability to rear face this seat up to 40 lbs., forward face up to 50 lbs., a quick fit harness allowing you to easily adjust the height while installed, and the inclusion of the one click latch system.

Not being big fans of our current convertible car seats, I am anxious to give this seat a try.  First Impressions?  I'm loving the orange-brown (Harvest) color I received and I am not alone.  It really looks sharp and I received immediate reactions from friends and family on it's look.  Even better, installation of this seat was quite simple. (Husband's help not required.)

More details and thoughts to follow once the twins and I have had the chance to really give this seat a solid try.  Dying to take a peak at it yourself?  It is currently being exclusively sold at BabiesRus.

Update:  Full review is now available here.

Wonder Twin Powers - Activate!

Never ceasing to amaze me on what these little guys can accomplish as a team, the twins climbed up on to the kitchen counter to sample all the apples left in the fruit bowl.  What's with these two boys?    My older 3 children weren't nearly as clever at bypassing all my safeguards this early on.  Why are my twins extra sneaky?

My theory is they are able to combine their brain power making them twice as smart as a singleton baby would be at trying to solve something.  What one twin toddler can't figure out becomes a starting point for ideas as the other twin watches and learns.  They problem solve and brainstorm together until ultimately coming up with a plan.  One only needs to sit and watch them go about their day to see that "Wonder Twin Powers" really exist around our home.

Let's hope this mommy is able to conjure up some super powers of her own to aid with parenting this duo.  My wishlist would definitely include Wonder Woman's lasso of truth, Flash's speed, and Superman's X-ray vision.  As a mom of 5, I think I already have the equivalent of "Spidey senses" so I'll skip those.  Oh, and can I have Batman's butler?

Zosephine Diaper Bag: Seattle

Now that the twins are getting a tad bigger (they turned 16 months today), we've been able to run local errands with a few less items in our diaper bag.  We are down to diapers, wipes, diaper disposing bags, purell, snacks, sippy cups, 2 pacifiers, 2 bibs, and mommy's essentials such as her wallet, sunglasses, iphone, hair ties, and lip gloss.

Traveling a tad lighter has opened up the possibility for mommy to carry this chic urban yet slightly earthy style bag by Zosephine.  A bag that is plenty big enough for 1 infant from the start, but may be a tad tight for twins until they've moved beyond the need for traveling with a change of clothes, burp cloths, multiple bottle feedings, diaper ointment, infant blankets, and a collection of baby rattles.

I was sent the Seattle style Zosephine Bag which is a gorgeous shade of steely blue with a modern brown patterned adjustable strap.  The inside of this modern bag is completely lined in easy to clean white nylon and includes a wipe-off diaper pad.  This bag features plenty of pockets including two inside bottle/sippy spots, an under the flap phone pocket, and a back zipper area.

I'm a purse kind of girl and the chance to sport a light, functional, and truly fashion forward diaper bag is just what this mommy of 5 needed!

Zosephine also offers a black bag dubbed the Kyoto, an orange bag called the Mineapolis, and a second blue bag with different accents called the St. Paul.  Zosephine is offering our readers a special discount code enter Promo Code [TWINS] for 15% off your order at zosephinediaperbags.com.  Additionally, become a fan of Zosephine on facebook for a chance to win their monthly fan giveaways.

Twin Halloween Costume Idea: A Pair of Aces (No Sew! Playing Cards Costume)

Pin It
I'm one of those mommies who prefer to make halloween costumes when time allows.  My mom always made mine, so I try to continue that tradition when possible.  I also really like the kids to have the opportunity to truly be creative and unique when picking a theme. However, since the twins are still too young to come up with Halloween ideas of their own, it was my turn to decide.  I really wanted something that had a bit of a twin theme and I wanted to avoid anything going on the twins heads.  (They currently are very annoyed by hats.) I eventually decided on playing cards, a pair of aces to be exact.  They were actually fairly easy to make.  I used two toddler size white pillow cases from Ikea as the base of the card.  Slits were then made in the top and the sides to accommodate their head and arms.  Please note that larger pillow cases can be used for larger kids.  You will also want to make sure you have solid colored apparel to wear under it.  The twins are wearing black t-shirts and black sweatpants, but gray or red would also work. I purchased 4 iron-on letter A's, black sticky felt, & iron-on transfer printer paper to decorate the pillowcases.  The felt was used to cut out 2 small spades, 2 small clubs, 1 large spade, & 1 large club.  These & the A's were then applied to the front of the pillowcases to look like the front of the cards. Finally, I scanned the back of a card, then printed it out twice on the iron-on transfer paper to give the back of the pillowcases their back of a card look. I'm very pleased with how they turned out and the twins seem quite comfortable in them too.

Admiral Road Designs {Review & Giveaway}

The weather has been quite chilly in Chicago this week, so my children were more then happy to wear the scarves sent to me for review by Admiral Road Designs.

Who wouldn't be? They are cute as a button and made from an "oh so soft" fleece fabric. Two different sizes and several different designs are available. And while you'll see them on my 16 month olds (pictured above) for purposes of showing off the designs, Admiral Designs suggests a 3+ age with parent supervision.

As a side note, Admiral Road Designs was originally known for their personalized blankets made from the same cozy fabric as these scarves. They've also just introduced a line of treasure tees. These tees are certain to be a well received holiday gift. Each shirt features an illustrated design with a clear vinyl overlay creating a pocket for a floating "treasure".

Is it getting cold where you live too? Why not to enter to win an Admiral Road Designs Scarf prize pack. 1 US or Canadian reader will win a selection of these scarves valued at $72.

Corrupted by the Tomatoes

They were nothing but trouble from the moment they entered our lives.  No, not the twins, the tomatoes.

It began when we placed the ripe buggers in our cart at Costco.  Those pulpy fruits called to my darling Declan.  Declan is young, of course he couldn't help but grab for the huge plastic shell case causing it to spring open and free the seedy bunch of vegetable wannabes.

Suddenly there were tomatoes everywhere.  They were all over the floor and our cart.  Oh those trouble making tomatoes!   I picked up each and every one along with my husband and we proceeded onward.

Why we didn't leave those red monsters behind at Costco, I'll never know.  When we arrived home, straight off to the fridge they went.  I even made a mental note to give the germy little things an extra good scrubbing later.  They struck again before I had my chance though.

Two days later, they willed my innocent duo to open the inadvertently unlocked fridge and free them again.  They taunted Declan & Cormac to poke them, squish them, roll them, toss them, and eventually even bite them.

And, they were good.  Dirty and completely laden with the myriad of germs found on the floor, but oh so juicy and wickedly good.

Testing our Bumbleride Indie Twin

As we previously blogged, we were sent a Bumbleride Indie twin for review on And Twins make 5! and I'm happy to report he twins (and the rest of us) have been hard at work testing it out.  Since I know this was a much awaited review for some of you, here's a few random moments with our Bumbleride to hold you over.

Above is a photo showing how the Bumbleride Indie Twin fits in the back of our 3 row Buick Enclave.  As I hope you can see, it does fit in this position without putting down any part of the third row seat.  You also notice that there is still enough room for a diaper bag and some other gear.  This was a must for our family of 5 children since we need use of all 7 seats of this vehicle when traveling together.

The second photo shows the twins enjoying big brother's football game from their comfy front row bumbleride seats.  I hope this illustrates just how versatile this stroller has proven to be.

We've taken it to muddy football games, we've taken it shopping, and we've taken it on walks around the neighborhood.  After falling a sleep on these many neighborhood walks, we've taken the Bumbleride directly in the front door for continued naptime inside.

Uppercase Living Wall Embellishments {Review & Giveaway}

After a recent positive review of wall stencils by another company, one of our readers wrote to suggest we try Uppercase Living.  She asked that her name be left out of this review, but I can tell you she loves Uppercase Living enough to have become one of their many demonstrators.  In fact, this reader insisted on sending us an Uppercase Living sample to try because clearly she believes immensely in the quality of this product.

I was almost overwhelmed by the vast amount of choices Uppercase Living offers.  Browsing their catalog stirred many ideas and possibilities for my home.  However, we ultimately selected an embellishment for my daughter's room, a very chic looking peacock to be exact.

I was a tad nervous about this choice since it was one of their more complicated 2 layer designs, however my concerns were without merit.  Application of both layers was easily explained in the online demo and equally easy to do.

The results were enough to make my daughter Cordelia ecstatic and Mommy quite pleased too.  Uppercase Living Products are sold via Independent Demonstrators.  If you haven't been invited to an at home party for these products yet, you might consider scheduling one at your own home.  You can find a local demonstrator for more information on this here.

Enter to Win:  One reader will be selected to win a $25.00 Uppercase Living gift certificate.  Certificate is limited to redemption via specified demonstrator only.  Simply leave a comment below to be entered.

Doubly Inspired by Columbus?

This picture is my 2009 Columbus day in a nutshell.

In the true spirit of Columbus himself, my twin set of explorers set out to discover unchartered lands.  Much like Columbus himself, the twins are within the Age of Discovery.  They have chosen my desk chair as their vessel and my desk as the place to dock.

Do you think Columbus' mommy repeatedly was quoted as saying "get down" too?

Five for Fighting's Slice {Review & Autographed CD Giveaway}

I really love when I find music that my (almost) 15 year old son and I both can agree on as great stuff. It doesn't always happen, but when it does I consider it a wonderful thing. With that in mind, I'm happy to report that Five for Fighting's new album, Slice, set to be released Oct. 12th has proven to be a musical consensus in our home.

Now we may not pick the same songs to be our favorites of the bunch, but we both agree there are no "skip it" songs among the grouping. My son's playlist includes "Hope" and "Above the Timberline" and mine features "Chances", "Slice", and "Tuesday".

Give a little listen below:

You can grab another "Slice" in these scheduled TV appearances:

CBS Saturday Morning - 10/10

Ministar Boots {Review & Giveaway}

The twins have toasty warm feet this fall and I'm a tad jealous. It's been cold and damp in Chicago lately so these two pairs of fur Ministar boots we received from USA & Canada distributor RT Nash, Inc. were a very welcome treat.
The Ministar brand of fur boots is currently being sold exclusively in Target Stores. RT Nash, Inc. (also distrubutor of the popular Bobux & Silly Billyz) pointed out to us that the the reason these remind us of the Bobux brand is because Bobux provides the designs for the Ministar line.

These boots are offered at Target for only $19.99 in 3 colors as featured in above photo (pink, beige and brown).  We are very pleased with our brown pairs.  15 month old twins can be a tad impatient and thus the easy on and easy off design is much appreciated.  What a wonderful option to wear around our drafty old home.

As a final thought, we would suggest you consider buying these in one size up from normal due to the fur inside.  Or, you can enter to win a pair below!

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Diamond Edition Blu-ray & DVD combo pack

"Some day my prince will come
Some day we'll meet again
And away to his castle we'll go
To be happy forever I know ..."

My 8 year old daughter, Cordelia, and I watched as Snow White's prince arrived again just last night via our new Blu-ray Disc provided to us by the One2One Network.  I must say that kiss gets us every time and how funny is that scene when the dwarfs don't want to wash their hands before dinner?

For the first time in 7 years, Disney is opening the vault and releasing 'The One That Started It All'. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released in high-definition Blu-ray for the first time ever yesterday, October 6th.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Diamond Edition includes a Blu-ray disc and a DVD in one package.  This combo is perfect because it allows you to enjoy the incredible high definition experience of Blu-ray at home, and use the DVD in the kids' room, in the car, or on your computer.  We currently have our second disc in the car since we spent a lot of time waiting in it for siblings these days.  We've been putting it to good use too, what a wonderful classic to have handy.

This set is loaded with extras:
First time ever in High Definition 7.1 sound
All new music video!
Disneyview - Expanded viewing experience
Disney Family Plan – games for everyone to enjoy
Backstage Disney – go behind the scenes of this legendary tale
Dopey’s Wild Mine Ride Game
Karoke Sing A Long
 & One of my favorite features is that since it includes a Blu-Ray version this means it includes a more scratch resistant and kid-proof disc.

And, if you who already own Snow White on VHS or DVD, click here to grab a $10 off coupon for the new Diamond Edition Combo Pack!  Offer is only good until October 20, but starting this fall Disney will introduce their Blu-ray Upgrade program so you will be able to upgrade other Disney titles in your library too!

Boon inc. introduces Stash

Whether you have one child or five, you are certain to find the unending uses for Boon's new Stash organizer.  Stash comes in either black or white and is designed to keep baby (or in my case babies) things organized throughout your home in style.

Boon, inc. sent us the Stash in black and I was very pleased with it's overall look and feel.  It's simple modern design lends well to many spaces and places.  Additionally, it makes cleaning a breeze by eliminating the need for several different unconnected containers.

We've placed our stash in the bathroom my daughter shares with the twins.  However, we'd clearly benefit from a few more of these in the nursery, office, kitchen, playroom, and mudroom.  I found it particularly clever that the design enables the user to either hang it on the wall or to place it on a level surface.

Who couldn't benefit from a tad more attractive organizing options?  Especially when they are products offered by a company like Boon that is donating 10% of it's profits to children's charities.

Giveaway Winners:

The winner of the Zula Patrol DVD Giveaway is
#89 packerfantimmy

The 3 winners of the GoPicnic Giveaway are
#77 js22
#117 Michele P.
#148 Terra H.
