My twin toddlers are like a pair of gypsies traveling our the home from place to place. Clearly sentimental sorts, they gather souvenirs as they travel the lands of the "Big People" and the "Fluffy Little Dog". In addition to their collection of newly found items aquired is some constant gear that always seems to make the trek.
I sense a bit of Conqueror in my nomadic duo, often they shall leave a mark that "Mac and Dec" have been there. Yesterday I found a cracker in the kitchen vent; today it was a binkie in the mail slot. At times they take risks that don't pan out, one must run and yell for help. Screeching sounds from one and whimpering from the other is never a good sign. "Oh look a twin up on the sill with no way to get back down!"
My husband says I am a gypsy too, in my car I wander. It's off to take the kids to school, to shop, to practices, and games. Powers of prediction are also mine, for example I know the future if the twins are given 5 minutes to roam. It's as if I've "seen" it all before, perhaps with the oldest 3?
First they will check the pantry lock, if it's open they stock up on treats for travel. Next stop is the coat closet to don "Big People" shoes and grab a mitten or scarf. Next they'll likely visit the kitchen to snatch a spoon or fork. Silverware is good for tossing over the stairway gate or down the narrow slit of the locked laundry chute.
I also find I'm good at reading palms. They tell so much about where you have been and where you may go. Red marker on the index finger indicates a craft cabinet invasion and sticky juice means one should check the latch on the fridge. Some gypsies read cards or tea leaves, I find I prefer crumbs. Just follow the trail and you can't go wrong.
Both Moms and Toddlers employ a bit of magic as well. For Mom it is a kiss to remove pain, a hug to stop tears, and the power to move mountains for my children if needed. For Toddlers it's that look, that moment, that sweet little touch. Long live the Gypsies!
