At our house, we have some toddler and baby toys that remain out all the time and some that are kept on the shelves to be taken out one at a time with the help of mommy, daddy, or an older sibling.
The toy shelves consist mainly of a selection of wooden toys, various educational toys, and other developmental toys and games. Some of these playthings can be used by my toddler twins alone and others are items we typically do along with them. I imagine that these shelves, in the twins eyes, are a bit of a sacred special space where the best of the best are displayed. Talking someone into taking one down for them to play with is a huge huge score in their minds.
It's hard to keep the attention of twin toddlers for long, so we tend to rotate through almost every toy on the shelf daily. And as you can imagine, new additions to these shelves are always a ginormous deal. With that in mind, our newest shelf item is called the Bee Hive and it was sent to us for review by PlanToys. This wooden toy is full of educational and developmental play options, which is clearly the foundation of the PlanToys concept as well as this Mommy's.
This new toy comes with 6 colored bees with 6 matching colored hives and a pair of wooden forceps. Fine motor skills are developed as the twins use their own pincer grasp or the provided forceps to manipulate their bee into and out of it's hive. Additionally, play aids in the twins' knowledge of their colors by matching yellow bee to yellow hive and blue to blue. An easy toy for twins to play together, I simply divide up the wooden hives and bees for both boys to play.
We've had the toy a little over a week and I've already seen a marked improvement in the boys' color matching skills. Always Exciting!
The bee hive is just one of the many preschool aged educational toys available from PlanToys. They also offer baby toys, wooden toys for dollhouse play and city play, roleplay and activity based toys, and larger scale toys. I already have my eye on a few more educational toys to add to our shelves in the future including the Alphabet A-Z, Trimino Bugs, Tower Tumbling, and Animal Memo.
