I recently was provided with a Moon Dough Barn kit for review by Team Mom and the kids are already adding more Moon Dough to their Christmas lists. I have a bit of a love / hate relationship with Moon Dough myself.
I love how much fun the kids have with Moon Dough when they are playing. It keeps them busy for quite some time molding and squishing. The Moon Dough play is always one of fascination and delight. The molds come out with such amazing detail. They really enjoy walking the moon dough shape about and delight in then "crushing it" to make another. An added bonus is the fact it doesn't dry out even when you don't store it as suggested. There is nothing more disappointing then telling the kids they can play with dough only to find it's all hard when pulled out.
The hate comes in at clean up. It is messy. Not stain your clothes, not ruin the carpet messy, not never coming out messy. It's more of a spilled a bottle of tiny fluffy sprinkles kind of messy. I minimize the scatter effect by having the kids play it on a wipeable drop playmat, but I ultimately need to vacuum after each play session to get it all.
Will I buy them more for the holidays? Yes! The fun they have when playing with Moon Dough far out weighs the hassle of cleaning it up. I'm guessing other parents are in agreement with me on this because the Moon Dough Barn has recenly been named to the Kmart Fab 15 their Hottest Toys of the Season List for the 2010 Christmas Holiday.
