My Two Year Old Sous Chefs

The nightly chant around our home at the dinner hour is "I help, I help too!"  Unfortunately, these words are not being uttered by my 15, 11, or 9 year old.  My big kids would help if asked, but most of the time they aren't even home from their after school activities when we are working on the nightly meal.  Instead, these pleas are coming from our two year old twin boys again.

Before I can even suggest they color pictures or watch Handy Manny, eager helpers 1 and 2 report to duty.  "I cook, I cook too!" is alarmingly followed by the words "I cut, I cut too!"  Clearly they think I'm off my game if they think I going to start handing over the knives.  Or perhaps that is exactly what I should do?

Instead of fighting the losing mommy battle of trying to otherwise occupy the boys, I donned an executive chef hat last night and put the boys to work on the line.   "Here's your (butter) knives.  Finish cutting up these limes and squeeze them for juice" I said.

Ever cut a lime with a butter knife before?  It takes a long time, approximately forever.  Juicing can last hours too with a bit of encouragement that you see a bit more in there.
