New Christmas Holiday DVD Releases for Kids

It's that time of year when all the latest and greatest Children's Christmas Holiday movies begin arriving on store shelves everywhere. This year brings some fun new releases for the little ones you'll want to have on hand including a Christmas themed release from Olivia, Madeline, The Backyardigans, and Dora the Explorer.

Merry Christmas Olivia: It's the first holiday DVD release for Olivia!  Eight episodes are packed into this 95 minute DVD released on October 5th by Nickelodeon.  Olivia will help spread the joy of the holiday season while demonstrating to children how fun the power of thinking can be and encourage an active imagination for themselves.  Episdoes include “Olivia Claus”, “Olivia and The Family Photo”, “Olivia’s Ice Spectacular”, “Olivia’s Snow Day”, “Olivia Makes a Wedding Gift”, “Olivia Makes Magic”, “Olivia and the Babies”, and “Olivia’s Good Luck”.  Some of our favorite episodes on this DVD include "Olivia Claus" and "Olivia's Ice Spectacular".

In "Olivia Claus", it’s almost Christmas, and Olivia and Ian can’t wait for Santa to come. But there’s one thing that Santa can’t bring – Olivia’s lost toy, her beloved monkey Mathilda. Olivia imagines herself to be a Santa Claus who returns lost toys.  On Christmas morning Olivia finds new gifts under the tree and Mathilda right under her nose.

In “Olivia’s Ice Spectacular”, Olivia can’t wait to see skating star Sonja Spencer perform in “Cinderella on Ice.” She’s sure she’ll be the lucky audience member chosen to skate with Sonja, and begins practicing on the skating rink she makes in her own backyard. When the show is canceled, Olivia decides the show must go on and she and her friends stage their own ice spectacular.

Madeline's Christmas And Other Wintery Tales:
Snow! Santa! And holidays galore! From Ludwig Bemelmans’ best-selling children’s books comes little Madeline and her wintery adventures with her dog Genevieve, her loyal friends from Miss Clavel’s class and next-door neighbor Pepito!

On October 19, 2010, Shout! Factory will release Madeline’s Christmas & Other Wintery Tales.  The DVD contains five animated episodes, all making their DVD debut: Madeline's Winter Vacation, Madeline and Santa, Madeline at the North Pole, Madeline and the Ice Skates and Madeline's Holiday with Mr. Grump.  Our favorite from this new release is Madeline at the North Pole.

Backyardigans: Christmas With the Backyardigans:  Featuring four new-to-DVD episodes, preschoolers will be introduced to different music genres and instruments including Memphis Soul, Society Band, Hootenanny and even a Balalaika Orchestra. Created by Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment, The Backyardigans: Christmas With The Backyardigans DVD just arrived in stores on Oct. 5, 2010.

The Action Elves Save Christmas - It’s Christmas Eve and Santa’s Magic Sack is missing.  This sounds like a job for Santa’s Action Elves!  Tasha, Uniqua, and Pablo are the stealthiest elves around.  Are they crafty enough to get past the Abominable Brothers? Music Genre: Memphis Soul (Stax-Volt)

Pablo and the Acorns - The Acorns (Tasha, Tyrone, and Austin) are kindly Scouts who value outdoor adventure and helping those in need. But they are put to the ultimate challenge when they try to help Pablo, an evil dictator from outer space. Music Genre: Society Band

The Big Dipper Diner - Waitress Uniqua and Cook Pablo meet their hungriest customer yet when Hugs, a sweet little space alien, drops into their space diner.  But an almost identical space alien, the Blarg, is also in the neighborhood shrinking things! Music Genre: Hootenanny

The Amazing Splashinis - The Amazing Splashinis (Uniqua, Tyrone, and Pablo) astound with their incredible synchronized dives. But practicing their latest dive becomes close to impossible when they discover a Sea Monster in the pool. Music Genre: Balalaika Orchestra

Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure:  It’s time to celebrate Nochebuena with Dora in Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure. Filled with original songs and exclusive extra scenes, this Christmas special will become a holiday favorite for the whole family! When Swiper tries to swipe the Christmas Star from Dora’s Nochebuena Party, he lands on Santa’s naughty list. To get back on the nice list, Dora must help Swiper travel to the past, the present, and the future to discover the true spirit of Christmas.

Created by Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment, Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure was released on DVD with all-new packaging, including the Countdown to Christmas Calendar, on October 5, 2010.
