October has arrived! It brings with it two birthdays towards the end of this month. My oldest son will turn 16 and my second oldest son will be turning 12. Shopping for the older boys always includes a stop at the video game counter to see the latest releases. They love the timing of their birthday, because it falls right as lots of new video games hit the market in time for the holidays.
Among those new releases this year is a game called Swords for Wii™ which is now at retail stores nationwide. Majesco Entertainment Company's Swords game, players use the Wii Remote™ with Wii MotionPlus™ as their blade in 1-to-1 motion-based battles against some of the fiercest fighters from history.
The boys helped me review a copy of this T rated game provided by Majesco. We found that in Swords players get to travel through time and space to battle eight highly skilled opponents, including the celebrated Sir Lancelot of the Round Table, Razor - a Jumandi hunter droid capable of unbelievable acrobatic moves and the vicious Viking chieftain Armin. After each victory, players are rewarded with an upgraded sword that offers unique capabilities—like poison, fire and extra damage blades—designed to prepare them for their next foe. Razor was quite impressive if I do say so myself.
My son Hayden walked me through how players begin their quest in the training dojo where Sensei Musashi helps them develop skills and master combo attacks to defeat fighters. He then showed me how players can continue to develop their skills in between fights with additional drills involving carving, sparring, and blocking.
The boys were really hoping that Swords would let players train with and fight one another in head-to-head battles. No one was disappointed either, they've had a blast virtually sword battling one another.
