Cleatskins (Sports Shoe Spike Covers)

A 2010 Holiday Gift Guide Pick from "And Twins make 5!"
If your not a fan of sports, you wouldn't survive long in our household.  We have a 16 year old son who is on his high school's football, basketball, and track teams.  We also have a 12 year old son who plays flag football, basketball, & runs track as well all for his grad school.  Our 9 year old daughter is a competitive dancer in hip hop and production.

I spend hundreds of dollars each year on the right shoes for each of them.  Football spikes for turf, football spikes for grass, practice basketball shoes, game basketball shoes, track spikes, training shoes, hip hop practice shoes, hip hop competition shoes, .... need I go on.

If there is one thing I have learned over the years of doing all this, it is that these shoes need to be treated like gold because they certainly seem to cost about the same.  We use those shoe labels to make sure they are identified as ours if lost and do our best to maintain them along the way.

With all this in mind, I was super excited to find a company called Cleatskins.  They make what is essentially a cover "skin" that goes over the bottom of all those sports shoes (spikes, cleats, trainers, court shoes, and the likes).  This cover is designed to allow you to save time, protect the shoe, allow you to walk easier, and even allow you break the shoe off the field or court.

We tried out Cleatskin's brand new (just added to the website) product for track, Trackskins.  My oldest may be insanely fast in his track shoes, but boy is he klutz when wearing them off the track itself.  If you have ever been to a track meet, you'd know exactly what I mean.  You can't miss the runners heel-walking between events trying to protect their shoes and themselves from falling.  Unlike other spikes, sprinter style track spikes only are in the front, so the design of this style covers just that part, other sport Cleatskin designs cover the entire bottoms of shoes.  My son popped the Trackskins (provided by the company for review) right over his track spikes and suddenly he was walking on them without issue.  Brilliant!  These will likely save me a small fortune in busted spikes alone.

Imagine how awesome these would be for the littler kids too.  Pop them over the soccer or baseball shoes to speed up the pick up and drop off process, wear them over the basketball shoes so you honor those "indoor shoes only" rules without the need for a 2nd pair, and get hubby a pair for his golf shoes.
