A 2010 Holiday Gift Guide Pick from "And Twins make 5!"
In my opinion, small games work wonderfully well as stocking stuffers and Gamewright has brought a couple new releases to my attention.
The first game is a 2-6 player strategy card game for the age 8+ crowd that is called Dweebies. Our family found it easy to both play & learn. We also found it could turn highly competitive after a few rounds.
The goal is to gather up as many Dweebies as you can by matching Dweebie cards at both ends of any row. Simple enough, yet without a clear strategy you'll likely find yourself having fun but losing Dweebies to the 9 year old a lot. My tip would be to take note of the little dots in the upper left corner indicating the rareness of each Dweebie. The rarer the Dweebie the harder it is to find a match.
The second game is a 2-4 player colors & shapes game for the age 4+ crowd. This one is called Take the Cake. Take the Cake is a cute game we look forward to playing with our 2.5 year old twins once they are old enough to be trusted with the smaller pieces. Game play involves shaking the sweet looking cupcake to find matches on the playing cards. I love that this teaches color & shape recognition along with strengthening a little one's fine motor skills.*Much thanks to Gamewright for providing these games for my review.
