Making Semi-Homemade Holiday Stockings

My mommy failure for the past couple winter holidays has been forgetting to purchase and/or make Christmas Holiday Stockings for the twins.  Luckily, the twins were too young to complain in years past.  This year they will be 2 1/2 years old and will certainly notice that their siblings have stockings while they do not.  My goal for last weekend was to tackle the stocking project before the twins tackled me.

All 3 of the other kids have custom stockings, so of course they needed something uniquely them as well.  To save time, I purchased 2 plain ivory quilted velvet stockings at Target for $10.00 each.  (Please note, this color is out-of-stock online but they had several at my local store.  They are also available in red and green.)

My other purchase took me across the street to Michaels where a I bought a couple sheets of felt.  I used, scissors, buttons, fabric glue, a needle, and thread as well.

I freehanded a puppy design certain to please my dog loving twins.  However, if you are uncomfortable with drawing your own design I would suggest you "google" coloring sheets for the theme desired.  Simply print one out you like and use it as your design template.

I opted to sew buttons to the felt face for the eyes and nose to give it a more 3D look, but glued down the rest of the pieces on to the stocking with craft glue to save time.  In total, the project only took me about 15 minutes each.

Wouldn't this make a great project to do with the kids?  Imagine the gifting potential ...
