Summertime grilling is coming; ready your sauces!

Spring is well underway and school is nearing it's end.  Friends are all a buzz with the events such as proms, graduations, weddings, dance recitals, and more.  One can't help but get excited about the summer to come.

Around our home, warm weather means the preparation of food moves outdoors closer to where the kids are at play.  This tends to also mean that hubby and I try to keep those grilled meals simple so we can join in the outdoor fun as well.

Delicious handy bottled sauces make a frequent appearance on the picnic or patio table this time of year for just this reason.  Sauces are an easy way to keep it simple without dinner becoming something either bland or boring.

Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce

If asked, Hubby and my older two sons would place Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce on their must have summer sauce list and I certainly can't disagree.  You can grill, cook, and marinate with it, or even put it summer dishes such as baked beans.  We were sent a couple bottles a few months back and have completely used it up on beef, chicken, and pork.  In fact, I'm on strict orders to hit the local Walmart this weekend to get more.

French's Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

The new French's Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce is a creamy and sweet condiment that adds the fun factor my littler ones enjoy.  My twins are at the age where it is all about dipping at mealtime.  The new French's Honey Mustard sauce fits the bill perfectly.  It has the sweetness the little ones crave, but it isn't so sweet that Mom and Dad won't enjoy it too.  Plus, you have to love a sauce that goes with a lot of different foods.  We were sent some to sample and found we can use on a variety of items including strips of grilled chicken, slices of pork, veggies, pretzels, or even french fries.

I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention how much we love some of French's other products too.  Their horseradish mustard and Frank's red hot sauce are practically a household staple.

Roses from California Blooms {Review & Mother's Day Giveaway}

On Earth Day I received this beautiful bouquet of California grown, eco-friendly roses by California Blooms.  They are a beautiful pale green in shade and I'm happy to report a full week later they are still going strong as they grace my table.

They arrived via FEDEX Priority in a nice looking cardboard box and there was even a small ice pack in there to keep the blooms cool during travel.  The message card was taped neatly to the inside of the lid making it easy to find and read your senders message.

Upon arrival, I followed California Blooms rose care handling instructions which included trimming an inch off each stem at a 45 degree angle, removing foliage that will be underwater, and adding the provided floral preservative packet to the fresh, room temperature water.  And aside from adding more fresh water here and there, my only other job was to enjoy them.

California Blooms bouquets can be purchased online at www.californiablooms.com or on your iPhone via the new CalBlooms App currently available at the iTunes App Store http://www.itunes.com/app/californiablooms.  The long stem roses are available in a one dozen ($39.00) or two dozen ($59.00) rose bouquets and can come with a glass vase for an additional $8.00.   Colors include Red, Pink, Lavender, Orange, Yellow, White, Peach, Green, or a mixed bouquet.

Enter to Win:  For Mother's Day, you can win One Dozen Roses from California Blooms.  Please visit California Blooms and return here to leave me a comment with the color you’d choose for Mom if you win.  Note this giveaway will end quickly, entry ends May 3, 2010 at 11:59 PM CST and the winner and they will have 48 hours to respond.

I Pick It! Letting toddlers think they have choices

"I pick it!" Is the phrase of the week around our home and you can be thankful this little "carrot" of my life does not involve any nose references.  This is all about choices and letting my toddler twins think they have them.

At 22 months old, both Cormac and Declan have made it very clear they each have a very strong opinion on virtually everything these days and while sometimes it takes the form of a unified voice, other times it is the polar opposite of what their twin wants.  Lucky me?

It begins at breakfast.  The twins have thankfully solved most breakfast time debates themselves by simply trading foods back and forth.  I start them both off with the same plate, yet watch as they each decide what they want and don't want that day.  Mac often picks the blueberries as his, trading his half of a banana for more, then it's Life cereal for more Cheerios and etc.  The key is to give tiny portions of several healthy options.

Getting the twins dressed is now filled with choices too.  In order to avoid complete fashion disasters, I pull out 3-4 shirts and pants that work with each other and let them each pick a shirt and pants from that mommy approved pile.  By doing the same with pajamas at night, I've found it actually speeds up the process.  The twins get excited to put on their "pick" eliminating the frequent chase around the room to undress one of them.

Over the years, I've found that the "secret" is to give your toddlers choices that don't actually have real importance to them.  When it's dinner time, you let them choose which chair they want not whether they will sit or stand.  At bath time, you allow them to pick the towel, bath toys, or even the tub but not whether they will or won't take a bath.  Tooth brushing time allow them to pick the toothpaste flavor; hair brushing time allow them to pick the brush; and at carpooling time they can pick one toy or book to bring.

It's a win win situation in the end.  The toddlers are happy with their little taste of self empowerment and fulfilled desires and Mommy is happy the important choices are still hers to make.

Avatar is the #1 Movie in North America... and now I've actually seen it too!

I confess, It's me.  I am 1 of those like 10? people who actually didn't see Avatar when it was in the theaters.

And while Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced on 4/26 that James Cameron’s phenomenal epic AVATAR became the best selling Blu-ray of all time after just four days in stores, with an astonishing 2.7 million units sold in North America alone, I, Stephanie Wagner - mommy of 5, still hadn't seen the Avatar movie.

However, it's all good now, my review copy arrived yesterday.  I've seen it, in fact I loved it and plan to watch it again this weekend with hubby.  It arrived just in time for me to put the twins down for a nap and typically I might regret not taking full advantage of this narrow time frame when they nap.  But this counted as an important exception right?  In fact, it even counts as work related, doesn't it?  It was after all my duty to you, my readers, for me to watch this DVD and tell you what I thought, was it not?

Unless ... every single one of you has already seen this flick because you are much cooler than I am?

Ok, so for the one reader who hasn't seen this movie yet:  What are you waiting for?  Even the readers who have seen it watched it again on the DVD they bought this weekend.  The movie is simply incredible and I stand before you (well, I sit before you) with no regrets about using my time to watch this film completely uninterrupted.  And after finally seeing this film for myself, I was able to see why it was such a celebrated hit.  As an added bonus, I'm also able to finally get all those Avatar based jokes and witty references.

Le Baby Hair Gel {Review}

If you flip through photos of my twin 22 month old boys, you'll likely notice that one of the two consistently has a case of messy toddler hair.  It's the kind of hair that tends to look all the more crazy after a nap.  While his twin Cormac was blessed with thicker, silkier, and tamer locks; Declan has fine hair similiar to his older sister's.

We struggled with keeping Cordelia's thin hair "in-check" on special days for years.  These days, I'm more than a little thrilled her hair is now long enough for clips, headbands, and pony tails.  However, that still leaves me with my sweet but constantly disheveled looking little Declan.

Honestly, I don't mind him looking messy on a normal day.  But what's a mom to do on those days when she needs both of her twin men to look good?  Up until now I may have suggested the "lick your fingers and smooth it out" routine, but I've found a far more civilized and effective option.

I was sent a tube of Le Baby hair gel to review and I've found it really works on Declan.  This styling gel totally tackles his unruly after-nap hair.

I have to admit, I didn't think it would work either.  The sample actually sat in the drawer of the changing table for a couple weeks before I pulled it out.  I was particularly desperate to fix his hair in a hurry that day and finally decided to gave it a whirl.  Imagine my surprise when two hours later he still looked half way decent.

Better still, it is hypoallergenic, fragrance free, free from harsh chemicals, no parabens, and no sulfates.  Perfect for those sensitive little ones and effective enough mommy or daddy can steal an emergency squeeze for themselves too.

New Tide Plus Febreze Freshness™ Sport {Review & Giveaway}

As a Mommy of 5 active children, I know all too well how tasking it can be at times to get kid's athletic apparel both fresh smelling and looking good.  My older 3 kids are avid athletes, the oldest is a High School Football and Track member, the second oldest participates in flag football, basketball, and track at his school, and the third oldest is a competitive dancer for a local dance company.

If your own kids participate in team sports, you probably know how icky smelling some of those hand me down uniforms can be when handed out on the first day.  The first thing I do is wash them, sometimes multiple times to get the stench and remaining stains off them.  However, this task became a bit easier for me this track season with the use of New Tide Plus Febreze Freshness™ Sport laundry detergent.

New Tide Plus Febreze Freshness™ Sport laundry detergent is specifically formulated to help remove tough stains and odors from workout apparel, and it does a great job keeping those "high tech" sports clothes (like C9 by Champion) clean.

To celebrate the launch of the new Tide Plus Febreze Freshness Sport, Procter & Gamble is allowing us to giveaway coupons & a Target Gift Card to one lucky reader.  Coupons are for the product (redeemable at Target stores nationwide, worth up to $5 in savings on C9 by Champion, Febreze® Sport Fabric Refresher and Tide Plus Febreze Freshness Sport laundry detergent), and will arrive with a $10 Target gift card.  Please note, I was given this same prize to facilitate this review.

Enter to win:  Tell Procter & Gamble why you'd like to try this product in a comment below for a chance to win.

Gazillion Bubbles bursting with fun {Review & Giveaway}

Ever wonder how it's possible to take a childhood classic like bubbles and make it bigger and better?  Clearly the folks at Funrise Toys, the company behind Gazillion Bubbles, are the ones to ask.  They took a simple concept like bubbles and ran with it creating a wide range of different toys made to "amp up" both the bubble production and the fun.

I had the chance to review three of these bubble toy items with the help of my kids.  Funrise Toys sent me the Gazillion Bubble Machine, the Gazilion Bubble Bike Exhaust, and the Gazillion Bubble Rocket.  They also are allowing me to share the bubble fun with one of my readers.  You can find full details below along with some info on their photo contest.

The Gazillion Bubble Machine

The Gazillion Bubble Machine is wonderful.  My twin toddlers can't get enough of it.  My days of manually blowing tiny bubble after bubble are gone.  I can now join in the fun of bubble chasing, popping, catching, and watching as the Gazillion Bubble Machine blows 4,000 per minute around our back patio.  As you can see in the photo below, Cormac and Declan were absolutely mystified and stunned at first by the sheer volume and it's overall appearance.   Play eventually turned to using some of our plastic dinosaurs to "destroy" the bubbles by popping them.  It's a game we've played many days since.

The Gazillion Bike Exhaust

Daddy helped Cordelia add the Gazilion Bubble Bike Exhaust to her beloved bike "Rosie".  It went on easy and added another layer of excitement to cruising about the neighborhood.  A button pushed before riding enables her to leave a trail of bubbles behind her.

The Gazillion Bubble Rocket

Hayden placed himself in charge of the Gazillion Bubble Rocket.  It sets up easily and the concept is similar to a traditional stomp style rocket, but this one creates a stream of bubbles beneath it during lift off.  And like most 11 year old boys, he quickly turned the Bubble Rocket into a competition between his sister, older brother JC, and himself.  Competitions included: Who could launch it the highest?  Who could leave the best bubble wake?  Who could catch their rocket on the way down the most times in a row?  JC won the rocket catching competition with a record 68 times if I remember right.  I believe a rematch is scheduled for this coming Sunday.

Gazillion Bubbles is currently hosting the Ultimate Gazillion Bubbles Photo Contest that offers contestants a chance to win monthly $250 Toys “R” Us gift card prizes, Gazillion Bubble products, and a Grand Prize of $1,000 Toys “R” Us gift card! You can check it out here: http://www.funrise.com/photocontest.

My Twins in the My Duo Stroller by Stroll-Air

The twins couldn't wait for Mommy to even finish adding the canopies before they insisted I put them in  the new Stroll-Air My Duo sent to us for review. Until that moment, I hadn't really considered how huge a selling point the seats being able to essentially face each other would be to them both. They love riding in strollers before, but being able to turn to seats to see their twin buddy face to face sometimes was an instant plus with the boys!

A full review will follow after I've had plenty of time to drag this stroller about our daily routine and weekend adventures, but I just had to share this first glimpse.

Updated:  It's here!  Read my review on this stroller now. http://andtwinsmake5.blogspot.com/2010/05/stroll-air-my-duo-stroller-review.html

Simply... Go-Gurt, Simply... Yummy {Review & Giveaway}

I'm guessing if you are a mom of a child older than 4, you know all about Go-Gurt?  It's the kid yogurt by Yoplait packaged in the cool plastic tubes.  These tubes eliminate the need for a spoon when packed in a child's lunch and make yogurt extra fun to eat since kids can just squeeze it out into their mouths.  Yogurt on the go ... Go-Gurt.

You may not have heard about new Simply... Go-Gurt yet though.  It is basically Go-Gurt with simplified ingredients.  No high fructose corn syrup, no artificial colors or flavors.  Just a good-for-you, low fat yogurt snack that you can feel good about giving to your kids.

New Simply... Go-Gurt is available in two kid-friendly flavors, Strawberry and Mixed Berry.  We purchased both and took a vote at the breakfast table and it seems we like both flavors fairly equal in our home but in the end, mixed berry was the winner.  A second vote was taken on which was better, the original Go-Gurt or the new Simply Go-Gurt.  The Winner?  We all agreed that they tasted basically the same, so we'll be sticking with Simply Go-Gurt from now on.

Enter to Win:  Want to take a vote in your home?  Enter to win a coupon for a free sample of Simply... Go-Gurt* as well as a Go-Gurt "Simplify Your Life" prize pack that includes a pocket Etch a Sketch, weekly planner and a seat back organizer.  Simply leave a comment below this post to be entered.

Additionally, the first 30 readers who click on the "Try It Free" tab below will receive a coupon* for a free package of Simply...Go-Gurt!  After the 30 coupons are claimed, you'll find a link to a $1.10 off coupon.

*Please note that this coupon offer for free Simply... Go-Gurt is not valid in some states, including California, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, Nevada, North Dakota and Tennessee.

It should also be noted that Yoplait provided me with the free product coupon and gift pack through MyBlogSpark to enable me to write this review and giveaway post.

H2Organics Kids Nutrient Enhanced Water

The subject of feeding children healthy options is a current hot topic in our nation.  This is of no surprise with the First Lady herself, Michelle Obama, taking aim at childhood obesity in the USA.

Are important company's noticing?  If my email folder can be used as any sort of accurate barometer, I'd say yes.  This Mommy Blogger has been receiving a plethora of emails from the PR firms of food and beverage companies that are making positive changes.

Additionally, brand new products are appearing in there such as this child friendly enhanced water targeted to help parents get kids off empty calorie sodas and sugary juices and to drink more nutrient rich water.

The product is H2Organics Kids Nutrient Enhanced Water by South Florida-based Cutting Edge Beverages.  H2Organics Kids can be packed in school lunches, taken to sports activities, and go with the family on outings.

H2Organics Kids comes in grape berry, strawberry apple and orange tangerine flavors.  At 10 grams, it contains half the sugar of juices, is low in calories, low in carbs and has 100% of Vitamin C as well as added calcium for strong bones and teeth.  In addition, there are no artificial flavors or colors, no preservatives and it is USDA certified organic.

Will the kids drink them?  I was sent all 3 flavors to try and took a sip of each before giving them to the kids.  The kids and I agree that the flavor is really good.  My kids say they'd be happy to see these enhanced waters pop up in their lunch boxes on a regular basis.

Ministar Explorers, a new line of shoes {Review}

Shoes!  The twins just love saying the word "shoes".  They ask to put them on all the time.  In their minds, shoes seem to symbolize adventure.  One puts them on when one is heading out to explore.  An invitation to get their shoes is almost always met with squeals of delight.

My twin boys have been wearing shoes by the Bobux brand and their designed for Target brand known as Ministar since practically day 1.  In fact, you can read my previous reviews of Bobux shoes here as well as of Ministar boots here.  I've even made it a point to keep up on the latest happenings with these two brands as a fan of both Ministar's facebook page and Bobux's facebook page.  I highly suggest becoming fans of your favorite brands such as Ministar to keep up with new releases, reviews, sales, and more.

Being a reader of "And Twins make 5!" has it's perks too!  The twins and I were honored to have the chance to be the first to review Ministar's latest release, the new Ministar Explorers which will be arriving at Target stores very soon.

Ministar's Explorers feature a new sole for indoor & outdoor wear.  These new soles are made of polyurethane.  Polyurethane is a material commonly used for sole construction due to its antistatic and anti slip properties, as well us it's durability and shock absorption capabilities. I'm by no means an expert, but I would describe it as a thicker version of the highly durable bottoms of some of the toddler footed pajamas.

Like other Ministar designs, they slide on in seconds and feature a velcro strap that needs fastening.  This quick on, quick off style makes them the perfect summer compliment to that black pair of flip flops this mommy always grabs when running out in a hurry.

Both twins have been wearing one of the 6 new designs (3 styles for girls and 3 styles for boys) out and about for the past couple weeks.  And, I'm pleased to report that neither of our 2 pairs show any real wear issues.  The bottoms while very pliable, really do hold up to being shuffled about on concrete, blacktop, gravel, grass, and even mud.

A side note, you can still use the discount code, “TWINS” at checkout (for www.bobuxusa.com and www.sillybillyzusa.com which provides shoppers with 15% off their total order.  However, Ministar shoes such as the Explorers featured above are exclusively sold at Target stores and at Target.com.

We were provided with shoes by the company for the purpose of this review.

Earth Day is coming, "Clean up, Clean up!"

My oldest son is on the High School track team this spring, which means I've been dragging my 4 youngest kids around the Chicago 'burbs with me so we can see some of his meets.  Admittedly, the littlest two, my 21 month old twin boys don't typically watch the meet much.  They tend to snack, run around, and make a game of something in each new place.

Last night, we were at a high school location that was really pretty nice, minus a spot where clearly the kids from various sports had decided to turn a little ditch area into their garbage bin.  This ditch was filled with empty gatorade and water bottles discarded by the school's student athletes.

The twins discovered this spot about 3/4 of the way through the meet.  The littering of this spot became a total fascination with the twins.  Upon seeing it, they began yelling "clean up, clean up!" and grabbing the bottles before we could stop them.

My 11 year old son was then tasked by the twins to run each bottle they found to a garbage can down the way.  My 9 year daughter's job was to make sure none of the bottles went into their mouths while they waited for big brother to return to run the next batch of bottles to the recycle can.

I have to admit I was less then thrilled they were all touching these likely germy bottles, but on the flip side how can you scold them for doing what I've taught them to do?  I convinced myself the recent rain had cleansed the bottles and by the end of the meet, the garbage filled ditch was basically no more.  Side note:  The Purell in my bag was fully drained too.

Obviously my toddler twins have no idea this month marks the celebration of Earth Day.  They were merely doing what they know to be right.  Since day one they've learned that you throw your empty items away.  Garbage does not go on the ground.

With Earth Day approaching, here's hoping those high school athletes from the school we visited appreciate the unprompted clean up the kids did and learn to do what's right too.  Keep the Earth and your school clean.  To quote one bottle of Gatorade we found in the ditch, "No Excuses".

Jell-o for everyone

I still hear the Jell-o jingle in my head from when I was a kid.  I bet you can too!  "Watch it jiggle, see it wiggle ..."  I guess it's fitting that I can.  Jell-o is a childhood classic and for whatever reason I seem to be able to remember the jingles for nearly all my favorites as child.

I was recently sent a sampling of the current Jell-o offerings to remind me just how fun and yummy Jell-o products can be for the whole family.  Who better to test this theory then our family of 5 kids, myself, and hubby?

Included among the samples were Sugar-Free JELL-O Gelatin Cups.  At only 10 calories and and 0 Weight Watchers® POINTS® value per serving, Sugar-Free JELL-O Gelatin Cups are an awesome snack choice for the entire family, of course mom may tempted to declare them all hers though.

But that's not a problem because Original JELL-O Gelatin Cups are all jazzed up for summer with new Lemon-Lime Splash/Outrageous Orange and the Berry Blue/Outrageous Orange combination packs.  Lemon-lime was a huge crowd pleaser around our home, but let it be said, none of the colors went uneaten for long at all.

Another great option we discovered and rediscovered are the Sugar-free JELL-O Pudding Cups.  There's absolutely nothing sugar-free tasting about the creamy and sweet Dulce de Leche or Chocolate Pudding cups.

Of course the Original JELL-O Pudding is still around with classic flavors such as Chocolate, Vanilla, and there is even Chocolate Vanilla Swirl.

Jell-o has clearly established two brand new pudding and gelatin fans.  I can hardly open my fridge without my 21 month old twins trying to grab for some these days.

Dora the Explorer: Explore the Earth!

Out on DVD yesterday, April 13th, 2010 is Dora the Explorer: Explore the Earth!

The twins and I sat down the other day so we could join Dora and Boots as they embarked on colorful adventures across the globe.  We journeyed to the South Pole, to rainforests, to tropical beaches, and experienced a mixed up season episode.  In each episode, we helped Dora and Boots set things right again completing our mission with the beloved  “We Did It!" Dora anthem.

It's no mistake that creator Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and distributor Paramount Home Entertainment chose to release these episodes in a collection this week.  Dora the Explorer: Explore the Earth! is the perfect Earth Day "must watch" collection for your preschooler.  The episodes provide a perfect lead into discussions about our Planet.

Coming Soon! Stroll-Air My Duo Stroller Review

Some exciting news for all our twin parent and parent-to-be followers! The Stroll-Air My Duo was shipped out to me from the company today in order for the twins and I to begin testing it.  We've been anxious to give this stroller a try since hearing about it back in the developmental stages.  Features include taking two infant car seats at the same time and seats that can be both forward facing, both rear facing, or one of each.  Making it a promising stroller for twins.  Stay Tuned.

Updated:  It's here!  Read my review on this stroller now. http://andtwinsmake5.blogspot.com/2010/05/stroll-air-my-duo-stroller-review.html

Story Updates:

Moving from a crib to a toddler bed with twins:  As frequent readers know, the twins demonstrated their climbing skills a few months back.  Long gone are the days of shopping for baby cribs and items for these twins.  At 21 months the boys are sleeping in toddler beds, but not with issue.  We've battled some ear aches and other ailments recently, that bought us a ticket to bunk in with mom and dad.  We are now struggling again to get the boys to stay in their room.  It's always something isn't it?

Bye Bye Binkies at Build a Bear:  I'm happy to report that 3+ weeks later, our pacifier giving up ceremony truly worked.  We even found a lost one the other day and they gave it to me to toss without issue.  Hurray!

It's Here:  I recently posted a picture of some boxes for readers to guess what it was.  Clever you!  It is a playset as you guessed.  I'll be posting a review of this set by Cedarworks soon, so keep an eye out for that post.

Smart Trike Deluxe Tricycle {Review}

So what's so smart about the Smart Trike Deluxe Tricycle?  This unique 3 in 1 multi-featured tricycle is designed for quality and functionality for a baby 10 months and up.  It changes and grows with your child making it the perfect first tricycle choice.

I should start by saying I was sent one of these to review by the company.  The twins and I loved it so much after using it a couple times that I immediately ordered a second Smart Trike Deluxe from Amazon.com.  Putting the bikes together was simple and painless.  The directions are well done and easy to follow.

The smart trike deluxe can be configured in 3 different configurations which correspond to 3 different approximate development phases of your child.

The first configuration is for the 10+ month child.  In this set-up it has a wrap around seat, complete with back support, keeping baby in place.  It also includes safety straps, a telescopic, parent push handle, and a sun hood to limit exposure.  In other words, it's a bit like riding in a bike themed stroller for your little one.  Pushing them with the parent handle is a breeze, it controls the actual steering of the bike as opposed to just pushing and muscling the thing along like most bikes.

The picture of my twins above on the Smart Trike Deluxe shows the second configuration, which is aimed at the 15+ month child.  Gone is the safety bar, back support, and sun hood.  However, in this phase the bike still utilizes the parent push telescopic handle, safety buckles, a cup holder, telephone toy, back tipping bin, and a storage bag.  I can lower the handle if my twins want to pedal and steer on their own for a touch, but raise it back up to push them home when they tire.  Love it!

The 3rd phase allows for the eventual removal all together of the parent push and steer handle.  My twins aren't ready for that stage yet at 21 months but it's so nice to know our bike allows for that when we get there.

Wow!  Tricycles have come a long way since I was little.  In fact, they've come a long way since my 15 year old was little.  Where was this thing when I was hunched over pushing him or dragging his bike home next to me while I carried him?

The overall make-up of the bike is top quality.  It has double injection rubber wheels and full metal construction.  It was of no surprise to me that the Smart Trike was a “Right Start Best Toy” Award” winner.  The deluxe is just one of the models made by the Smart Trike company.  You can find some models at Toys R Us or check or order one online from Amazon.com.

Cardboard Playhouses by Crafty Kids {Review & Giveaway}

Just in time for Earth Day comes our review and giveaway of an earth friendly alternative to playhouses.  The brand new company, KidsCraft, is creating cardboard playhouses from 100% recycled materials.  Houses are built using a flap and slot design which means no cutting or taping is required.  And, since each playhouse is designed to fit 2-3 children, it was a huge hit with our household of 5 children including twin toddlers.

Added bonuses, these blank playhouses can provide several additional hours of play in the form of coloring, stickering, stamping, and/or painting the interior & exterior of the play spaces.  And years from now, when the eventual day comes to retire your play structure you can feel good knowing it can be recycled all over again.

KidsCraft Playhouses are currently available in two styles, the shuttle imagination they sent us to review and the creation cottage.  I was surprised at not only how easy the shuttle was to build, but how sturdy it has remained.  We've had ours set up for a few weeks now and it's as stable and solid as it was on day one.

Enter to Win:  Our readers can enter for a chance to win their choice of the shuttle imagination or creation cottage.  Simply visit kidscraftusa.com and return here to post your preferred selection.

Further Springing into Action

The kids, hubby, and I are still spring cleaning around our home this week. My video and blogged tips on involving the whole family in this process can be found in my post here. In that same post you can share your spring cleaning tips and favorite products for a chance to win a giveaway for some awesome bed protectors and pillows by Aller-ease which come just in time for this Spring Allergy Season.

As a follow-up, I wanted to share some of my many favorite spring cleaning and allergy reducing products:
  • Dyson Vacuum Cleaners: I have a mini handheld model and an upright by Dyson. I love them both. Vacuuming is an around the year must, but during spring cleaning time you'll put yours to extra use getting into those odd little spaces and crevices that collect all sorts of allergens and dirt. HEPA filters and motorized brush heads combine for powerful allergen removal and pet hair pick-up.
  • Shark Steam Mop: What's not to love about a chemical free way to clean all your hard surface flooring? I received this mop for Christmas and have become a huge fan. With twin toddlers constantly crawling about on the floor, I consider this a huge find.
  • Febreze Fabric Refresher Allergy Reducer: We have kept the upholstery items to a minimum upstairs, but I love draperies and fabric based furniture items. I couldn't part with it completely, so instead I use this product to reduce the allergens that can collect on these types of items. I'm very pleased with it.
  • Germ Guardian Air Purifier:  You can read my full review of this item here.  I'm still a huge fan of this product sent to me for review and I feel it definitely helps.
  • Seventh Generation's botanical disinfectant cleaners:  I just receive these a few weeks ago and have become an instant fan.  I love using natural cleaners when you can find one that works.  These do.  You can read my full review of these here and even enter to win some.
  • Aller-ease Bed Protectors and Pillows:  We've been putting these to the test since receiving them this Fall and love them.  The pillows are awesome and the protectors seem to be doing their job as best a mom can tell.  Our fall allergies were mild and spring has been going well so far too.  While I can't say it was 100% because we started using these Aller-ease bedding items, I can say it certainly isn't hurting!

Brik-A-Blok takes building toys to a whole new level

April showers during your child's spring break may sound horrible to some, but our morning indoors today has been gobs of fun thanks to a toy system we've been provided to review.  It's called the Brik-A-Blok toy system and it allows your children to create and recreate all sorts of different structures. Club houses, mazes, tunnels, playhouses, pretend stores, caves, castles, lairs, and beyond.

Our 11 year old acted as chief builder and his goal was to create a cave with a long tunnel entrance everyone could crawl inside.  The large 15 ½ inch by 15 ½ inch plastic panels snap together easily for both adults and children and in mere moments, this modular system becomes whatever cool structure your child dreams up.

When your done roleplaying for the day, you simply deconstruct the structure and place the individual squares back into the original zippered vinyl storage bag.  From there you can slide it under the bed or into the back of the closet until next time.

This system takes building toys to the extreme allowing your child to go inside and explore what is they have created.  My kids LOVE building and playing with it, and my toddlers adore being able to crawl inside with the big kids once the latest design is deemed complete by the older kids.  Clever, clever.

It's Here!

Any guesses on what "it" is? Review to follow ...

Uh Oh! Uh Oh!

When I hear both of 21 month old twins repeatedly yelling "Uh Oh, Uh Oh" from the other room, I always know it's going to be good.  This morning was no exception to that rule.

If you ever wondered what a box of Trix Cereal would look like if it was spilled out all over the kitchen floor, this one is for you.  Note to self, the twins have long arms.  Second note, let the phone go to voice mail when toddler duo is hungry.  Final thought, Trix do look kind of pretty all scattered about.

Aller-ease Spring into Action {Spring Cleaning Tips & Giveaway}

Frequent readers will likely recall our participation in the Aller-ease "Flip for Fall" campaign organized by The Motherhood last autumn. Now fall has come and gone, as has winter to, in fact spring is already well on it's way to being sprung which means it's now time to "Spring into Action" with Aller-ease.  Where does the time go?

This time, I've decided to share a lot of ways that you can involve the kids in these seasonal cleaning projects.  As a mommy of 5, I'm a big believer that spring cleaning really is a must.  A few of my kids have asthma and almost all of us suffer from some allergy issues.  It's important to have an allergen free space to come inside to at the end of the day.

I think it is equally important that essential chores be shared, especially in a large household.  However, I do my best to keep these little jobs fun and show my appreciation for their aid.  You can view those tips in my short video below.

Once you've completed viewing it, you'll want to take another moment to enter our blog's great Aller-ease giveaway.  This Aller-Ease giveaway will include:  1 Aller-Ease Cotton Comfort Allergy Protection Pillow, 2 Aller-Ease Cotton Comfort Allergy Protection Pillow Covers, and 1 Aller-Ease Queen Mattress Cover.  These are all great!  In fact my kids were practically fighting over who got the pillows.  Luckily, I was just sent a couple more along with some additional covers and mattress protectors.

An additional Aller-ease "Spring into Action" product giveaway can be found on the Aller-ease website.

Enter to Win:  Share your families’ tried and true spring cleaning tips and the innovations you can’t live without in a comment below for a chance to win the aller-ease prize pack.

Optional Additional Entries for:
1 extra entry if you become a fan of Aller-ease on Facebook.

Hot Locks Doll {review & giveaway}

If you have a little girl that likes dolls you should check out this newest release from WowWee, Hotlocks.  So what makes the Hotlocks Dolls special? They are 4” poseable dolls that come with Rapunzel length hair. Unlike Rapunzel, these dolls aren't locked away in a tower, they are out and about looking "hip" and seeking someone to share in the hair fun.

My daughter, Cordelia, loves the 14 inches of of silky hair on her Ami Hotlocks Doll. She's been brushing, braiding, curling, styling, and restyling it at great length (pun intended).

I wish we'd had this doll back when I was teacher her to braid, because it's the perfect way to allow her to learn and practice those skills. The dolls even come with 1 medium sized barrette, 2 mini-barrettes and 1 styling comb.  Additionally, Hot Locks also offers a deluxe HotLocks doll with 28 inches of hair which to use their term sounds completely "Hair-rageous".

Hot Locks will also be offering some neat looking play sets to further the doll play such as the Hot Locks Curl and Style Salon and the Hot Locks Braid and Style Salon.

So where can you get one? If you live in Phoenix and Chicago, you should be able to find one of these dolls now at your local Walmart and Toys R Us stores. However, the rest of you will have to either win my giveaway below or wait for the Hot Locks to launch nationwide this summer.

Enter to Win:  You can enter to win 1 Deluxe Kai Hot Locks doll by simply leaving a comment below including the name of your favorite Hot Locks Doll from their website.

Optional Additional Entries for:
