Pondering a Mini Makeover for Our Kitchen

Our kitchen is definitely the most lived in room of our home.  We cook in there, we eat in there, and much like other families we find ourselves frequently gathered in there.  It's the place to be when you want to see and be seen. A room with such importance deserves some pampering now and then.

The cabinets have been here longer than I have, they are strong, basic, but in need of yet another coat of paint.  We plan to do just that, preserve most of them with a fresh coat of paint.  Though I'm working hard on hubby to let me remove 1 or 2 to open up the place.

The floor was something we laid down, a wood laminate that has seen better days due to a leaky dishwasher and a few other wet disasters. It's need for immediate replacement is what prompted our plans.  I have older wood floors in the whole front of the home and in several of the bedrooms.  It would be hard to match those and we want to go a little different, so we are leaning towards tile.  I'm tempted to go with black but we both fear it will be too dark, my bet is we pick the gray when the time comes.
The back sliding door is ugly, incredibly hard to open, even harder to close, and the handle has all but fallen off.  It's been whispering to me for years to allow it to retire.  It's hopeful replacement will be one of the french variety.

Those are the must do items, but I have a healthy wishlist too including a tile backsplash, new counters to replace the laminated ones, and the removal of a little wall.  Oh heck, let's throw in a white porcelain farmhouse sink and one of those big fancy faucets too!

Things I do love about the room?  My curtains, my eclectic collection of colorful plates and the overall color scheme of the white cabinets, black counters, & cheery yellow walls.

Here's a few "pre" photos of the project, wish me (us) luck?

Would love to take out this wall behind our clutter rack.  The Vera Bradley Folkloric Tote stays.

Imagine the room without the first upper cabinet there and it's above soffet.
