Our kitchen remodel has continued to move along. The entire family is happy to have the demo phase of this kitchen project behind us. What a mess that can be!Now for the fun part ... An electrician was here last week to install some lights and move a few outlets for us. Plus, last Friday the new countertops were installed.
Today the tile guy arrives to begin repairing and tiling our floor. He's also tiling our backsplash and doing some dry wall repairs. I can't wait. We focused most of our attention this weekend on installing a few new cabinet doors and doing a good deal of painting.
With the brand new sink and countertops now in place, ScotchBlue Painter's tape was an essential. I taped the borders around all those beloved new surfaces with samples provided by the 3M company and as expected, ScotchBlue did it's job perfectly. Our new surfaces are paint free and the tape came off easily without gumming up my sink and counters when we were done.
We'll be using up every inch of the samples sent taping up the newly tiled floor and backsplash edges when we do our final paint coat on the walls and trim. I think a sharp painted edge makes a huge difference and I'm certainly not risking getting paint on my new floor. Did you know there is a guide to masking like a Pro on the ScotchBlue/3M website? It even includes a video. I thought that might be kind of handy for the newly inspired DIYer.
We have countless different surfaces to paint including cabinets, walls, ceilings, trim, doors, shelving, and more. We have begun tackling our painting list with a paint brush system provided for review by The Green Toad. I'm an instant fan of this painting system. I love how the Green Toad paint brush and roller system is environmentally friendly. All the plastics including the bristles are biodegradable and compostable.
The system's handles have an ergonomic grip design to reduce hand and wrist fatigue, plus the handles have a lifetime warranty. Various sized rollers and brushes all click on & off these handles as needed. Also helpful is the fact that the brush head pivots to allow you to get to odd angles even easier.
As for the paint itself, we were provided with a few gallons of Mythic paint to review. Mythic has developed a name for themselves in terms of non-toxic, ultra low odor paint. I was anxious to try a paint product designed to be both safer for the planet and my family.
Hubby has done a lot of painting over the years and was skeptical this paint would cover as well as his "go to" premium brand of choice. He was pleasantly surprised that a paint with no off-gassing VOC’s and cancer-causing toxins could be made to rival our previous brand choice in terms of performace.
The best part was clearly the lack of odor. The kids had no idea I had even painted anything until physically seeing the paint on the walls. No tell tale paint smell with Mythic. Hubby's only complaint about Mythic paints is that it's currently a good 25 miles to our closest Mythic paint dealer. The silver lining is that you can order Mythic Paint online if there is no dealer within 15 miles.
