Sesame Street Silly Storytime DVD Released

Elmo fans such as my twin toddler boys will be happy to hear about the February 1st release of the Sesame Street Silly Storytime DVD.  It features the beloved Sesame Street characters in classic fairytales including Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood.

The timing seems perfect with fairytale retelling being all the rage in theaters!

Silly Storytime begins when Zoe wishes she had longer hair just like Rapunzel, but when her Hairy Godperson grants her wish, it puts Rapun"Zoe" in a hairy predicament.  My 2.5 year olds were particular fans of the Hairy Godperson in this episode.

During the next two tales, Prince Elmo tries to break an evil spell cast on Sleeping Grouchy that makes her sleep for 100 years, while his other Sesame Street friends help Jack grow a beanstalk. The twins really got a kick of these two episodes.  Sleepy Grouchy was a favorite of mine!

Finally, dance along with the Big Bad Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood as they sing about the parts of a face in a musical version of the classic story.

Keeping with Sesame Street’s educational focus, Silly Storytime highlights early literacy skills, such as rhyming and reading fundamentals; problem solving and critical thinking which includes guessing from clues; and learning about nature and living things. The DVD also features four classic “Kermit News” segments along with a special animated story DVD extra, “Grover Makes a Wish.”  It's great to share these older episodes I probably watched as a child with my own kids.

*Much thanks to Warner Home Video & Sesame Workshop for proving this DVD for my review coverage.
