Peace of Mind in 160 Characters or less

This is my son's sophomore year of high school.  He's the oldest of five children and was my most needy in terms of my mommy chauffeuring services until today.  Today, JC passed his driving test and proceeded to drive himself to school.  No need for a ride from his minivan driving mom, no need to pack up the twins in the car, JC has his own ride now.  I'm confident he'll do a fine job and in fact, I'd go so far as to say that he's one of the most responsible teenage boys I've ever met.

However, I was beyond thrilled when I received his unrequested but MUCH appreciated text from him upon his safe arrival at school.

First, a look back:

Son:  need a ride
Me: k
Son: txt when here
Me: here

Son:  need a ride
Me: k

Mar 9, 2011 4:45pm
Son:  need a ride
Me: Dad's getting you

Mar 10, 2011 4:51pm
Son:  need a ride
Me: k
Me: Here
Me:  JC?
Son: OK sorry we had to stretch
Me:  Do it at home, I need to go
Son:  Done now lol

I won't bore you with all of them as I'm sure you get the general pattern.  They go on and on with the "need a ride" requests and a few "what's for dinners?"  You'd also find a few track meet status updates mixed in for good measure here or there.

Today when he left, he asked if I wanted him to text me when he got there.  I was torn with what to answer.  I trust him and his driving but I knew I'd be anxious to know he made it there without drama.  Factor in the rain ... ugh yes ... but I answered "no, you don't have to text, I trust your driving."
