All the kids are in school now, all 5 kids including our little duo now in preschool. The 1st day of preschool for the twins is going down as an overall success in everyone's book.
Both boys were a touch nervous but clearly excited leading up to their arrival at school. Once at the school door waiting their turn to go inside the boys appeared apprehensive to hubby and I, but off they both went with teacher down the winding hall to their classroom. Declan looked like he might bolt for a moment but turned and walked straight ahead holding teacher's hand very bravely. Cormac held teacher's other hand and walked with them but kept looking back at both hubby and I for reassurance.
They both emerged from school with similar timid expressions and new paper crowns 2 hours later. Their faces slowly changed as they saw us, first a sense of releif and then came the best faces of all ... the twins were proud, and proud they should be. The did it! They went to school.
Details on their first day slowly were released over the rest of the afternoon. We played with building stuff, we painted polka dots, I had to share the baby person with someone else. "I missed you" Cormac mentions about 3 or 4 times during the remainder of the afternoon, but he follows his declarations each time with comments like "but I played toys" or "but you picked me up later". At dinner, Cormac admits to crying "a tiny bit but stopping" when another boy was sad and Declan mentions "a little tear in his eye he had to wipe with his finger"one time.
It was all this mommy could do, not to cry herself. So proud of those little guys! Now here's hoping they agree to go back again on Wednesday.
