There's a trend that has been wheeling around the nation and it's a yummy one. Some call it street food and others call it food truck fare, call it what you might this trend is a tasty one. Food trucks are most popular at carnivals, sporting events, music venues, college campuses and larger metro areas such as New York, L.A. and Chicago.
Food Trucks look and work much like the ice cream man from your childhood, but the food offerings can range from typical to exotic gourmet. Better still, these mobile vendors are on the go some traveling as far as 40 miles out of the heart of the city to suburbanites in need of savory sustenance.
This weekend, we stalked our first Food Truck, Flirty Cupcakes, who arrived with frosted treasures aboard not 5 minutes from our suburban home. We weren't alone in our hunt either, the truck was slammed upon it's arrival with cupcake seekers ordering anything from 2 to 2 dozen.
Flavors included: Devil in Disguise, A Raspberry Stole My Heart, No Plain Jane, PB&C, Flirtini, Curious George, The McDreamy, Strawberry Squared, I "Heart" Chocolate, Paradise Island, and the special of the day Carrot Cake. We bought a sampling of each and sliced them up to share. The Raspberry really did steal my heart and there was absolutely nothing square about Strawberry Squared. I can't possibly pick a favorite, there wasn't a single cupcake we didn't love.
I could definitely get into this food truck thing, I wonder what other street food vendors are wheeling around the southwest suburbs?
