Congrats to all the creators for continuing to dazzle myself and more importantly the kids. Here's some favorites on our list for the month of October:
Tractor Mac Builds a Barn: This is one of three books appearing this month by PicPocket Books. This book features classic illustration couple with interactive text and a storyline little boys will love.
Ladybug Girl: It appears the Penguin Young Readers Group has quite a few book apps that might be hits with my crew. Our first app of theirs to try was the just released (Sept 20th) LadyBug Girl. With more than 1.4 million books in the Ladybug Girl series sold, this digital extension of the characters was one we really looked forward to seeing and it did not disappoint. Each page has an interactive element in addition to the story and a dress-up game is also included.
Skippyjon Jones: Also from the Penguin Group is The Skippyjon Jones app which was selected as one of USA Today’s "10 Coolest Book Apps for Fall" and listed as "New and Noteworthy" in the Apple store. We love dogs and we love our paper copies of Skippyjon Books, so loving this app came as no surprise. Storytime elements coupled with mucho grande play potential make this App worth of a
Gigantico spot on our list.
The Trees Grin Beside Me: The Trees grin Beside me is part of the Auracle Line by Auryn. This is one of those books that really makes you and your child really ponder the beauty of nature and how very beautiful some people can illustrate and write about those topics. The read to me option is done in a karaoke style that highlights each word as the narrate speaks it.
Brave Rooney: Brave Rooney is Children's Author Gerry Renert's first book app but one would never know that this EMMY nominated kid's TV writer, winner of "Parent's Choice," "iParenting" and a "Mom's Choice" award wasn't an old pro at this App platform. The book's message is a strong one dealing with kid's worship of superheroes and the important emotion a child feels as they crave to "fit in". Over 50 interactive opportunities make this book app a hit.
Petunia Pepper: Another PicPocket Books App, this one features that same much appreciated interactive text element along with some animation and audio extras. Another beautifully animated tale that girls in particular will enjoy.
Wednesday is Spaghetti Day: Our third pick from PicPocket Books is this cute book written and illustrated by Maryann Cocca-Leffler. Cats and Spaghetti, need I say more? My twins find this premise quite funny.
The Penelope Rose: MoBaD Media found us with their Penelope Rose App in mind and we are glad they did. The Penelope Rose is a magical fairytale of how roses were saved and fairies became the artists of the winged world. This app is filled with interactive moments and a magical tale.
Millie & The Lost Key: We told you about Book 1 last month and now we have had the chance to checkout book 2. Can't get enough of that dog Millie, we adore Book 2 as well! I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the clever bedtime mode that calms things down for night night time. As a side note, a portion of the sales of this app go to Petfinder.com.
