Image via WikipediaThere was one happy face and one sad face when I picked up my twin three year olds after school today. Cormac was the last one out the door and he looked like he was fighting back tears. He wouldn't make eye contact with me at first, but I kept asking him what was wrong. Had someone been mean to him? Was he sick or hurt? I could just tell he was upset about something. No response, just a slow stream of tears ... finally he replied that he didn't get to color and Declan did.
Jealous twin alert!
Cormac adores all the arts and crafts stuff at school. I determined he was likely taking his time to get his turkey craft just right and it left no time for him to do extra coloring. Declan did his quickly, so he got to pick a coloring page and color it. It was a cute little thanksgiving themed coloring page with a teepee and an indian. I wanted to tell Cormac he made the right choice not to rush his work in lieu of coloring, but I knew the message would be lost on him at the moment. He was clearly envious of the kids that worked faster and got to color, but something about one of them being his twin made it so much worse.
I did what any good mom would do and dried his eyes telling him he could color pages at home. He did what any jealous twin would do and replied, he only wanted to color the special "tent with kid" page Declan colored. Upon arriving at home, I began googling "indian and teepee coloring pages" but I never found the exact one. Cormac did eventually compromise on a page that was deemed close and asked for one of Mickey and Minnie Mouse as well. I happily appeased him with both. He never bothered with the teepee page and instead colored the famous mouse and his girlfriend.
In hindsight, I should have found him a big Monster to color and offered up a bright green crayon.
