It's hard to tell just what they've learned from day to day conversations, however some strategic play opportunities have revealed a few things. I find pulling out the educational toys and games really gives me a great gauge on each of the twins' progress. For instance, we've been having a lot of fun finding new ways to play with our two sets of Educational Insights Bean Bags. Unlike ordinary bean bags, these sets are themed to aid in various hands on learning experiences such as the sets we own "letters" and "shapes". Other sets include colors, phonics, numbers, and touchables.
Throwing the bags into a bucket is fun, but it's also educational when you ask them throw them in a specific order. Declan, throw the D into the bucket. D for Declan. Cormac, throw the C into the bucket. C for Cormac. You get the idea. Shapes can be thrown in buckets too or I like to try hiding them in the room and asking them to find the Pentagon. When they show up with the wrong shape, I say no that's the hexagon. Since each shape is it's own color, hints can be given if needed. There are plenty of other play opportunities too. For more ideas on play, see this great play guide Educational Insights includes.
