Bandette Cup Labels

If you've ever struggled to keep baby bottles, sippy cups, or drinking glasses separate you will love the Bandette labels.  These are exactly what we need in a large household of 5 kids.

The concept of Bandette labels are similar to that of those cute wine charms people use to mark glasses at cocktail parties.  Only Bandette's are designed with the littlest of consumers in mind.  Bandette's stretch to fit around most cups, bottles, small containers, and even adult cups with a mission to keep those items from being used by anyone but it's intended user.

Great iPhone Apps for Toddlers & Preschoolers (March 2011 Edition)

Being a mom isn't much different than being a boy scout, in that I have found being prepared makes all the difference in the world on outings.  I'm not just talking ample snacks, toys, and diapers in your tote either.  I am referring to downloading a few clever apps on your iPhone for those times when a "big outing" may not have been the plan.  You know, when dance practice for older sister runs over by twenty minutes or when you need to dash off to the doctor in the only half hour window you have?

Here's some apps that currently seem to be doing a stellar job occupying the twins time:
  1. Fisher-Price: Little People Farm
  2. Fisher-Price: Where's Puppy's Nose?
  3. Fisher-Price: Chatter Telephone
  4. Playskool:  Alphie
  5. Playskool:  Weebles
  6. Duck Duck Moose:  Itsy Bitsy Spider
  7. Duck Duck Moose:  Wheels on the Bus
  8. Electronic Arts:  Lite Brite
  9. Little Tikes:  Little Tikes Mobile Land Pro
  10. Griffin Technology:  Toys Story 3 Memory Match
  11. Outfit7:  Talking Tom
  12. Neil Daniels:  Bubble Snap
  13. Claireware Software:  I Hear Ewe (Animal Sounds)

Packing for Spring Break?

I'm going to start by saying it's a Spring Break "Staycation" for the Wagner Family this year.  Our oldest is very committed to his H.S. track team and he has a meet during the break.  However, that's not stopping me from compiling a little list of the items I might bring if I were going.

First, you'll need some bags to toss all your apparel and gear inside and my current obsession is all things Vera Bradley.  In fact, I am currently toting a bag from the Spring Folkloric collection everywhere I go.  The popular "Get Carried Away" Tote is aptly on sale until April 4th.  Additionally, local girls will be excited to hear they just opened a store in Water Tower Place here in Chicago on March 11th and have another store opening at Old Orchard on April 8th.

Disney's Tangled releases today on Blu-Ray & DVD and you can save on your copy with a Limited Time Offer Coupon found here.

I finally had a chance to check out our review copy of Tangled provided by Disney with some of the kids.  What a great movie!  It has all the elements of a classic.  The movie has action, comedy, drama ... all the elements needed to keep the kids and parents interested to the very end.  It's always nice to find a movie that the whole household can view together.  The bonus features are amazing too.  One could spend forever exploring all the content available.

New resource for Sports Moms from Gatorade

It was mainly another weekend of sports for the Wagner Family.  Oldest son, JC, ran in a Varsity Track invitational and second oldest, Hayden, participated with his good buddies in a local 3 on 3 basketball tournament.  And while Friday did bring some girl power fun with a belated birthday sleepover, the rest of the weekend found me in "Sports Mom" mode.

I'm clearly in good company in my role as a Sports Mom too.  According to a recent study by Gatorade, “Sports Moms” is a group of nearly 13 million strong.  To help Sports Moms support their athletes, Gatorade has developed a new website, Gatorade.com/moms as a resource for information and inspiration. Here Sports Moms like myself can find articles and advice on sports nutrition, training tips, etc., as well as documentary webisodes featuring real Sports Moms, not actors, as they share their stories about raising kids in sports.

Little Tikes 2-in-1 Garden Cart & Wheelbarrow (+ Giveaway)

It's still March, so April showers and May flowers are still just a much awaited dream we ponder indoors.  However, that hasn't stopped us from putting our new Little Tikes 2-in-1 Garden Cart & Wheelbarrow to good use here in Chicago.  It just means that we have to turn up our roleplaying and pretending skills until we can roll our entire fun outdoors.

Assembly of the 2-in-1 Garden Cart & Wheelbarrow provided by Little Tikes for our review was a breeze.  It took me about 20 minutes with my twin toddler helpers.  I suspect it may have even gone even faster without so much help.  The toy has a removable fabric shade as well as a removable tray for flower pots.  It also comes with 2 garden hand tools, 2 pots, 2 plastic flowers, 2 plastic soil discs, & 1 Portable water sprinkler.

Hot Joe Jacket (+ Giveaway)

I throw on my favorite slippers and one of my sons hoodies, plop the children in my new minivan, and drop the older kids off at their various schools.  Fuel is needed to go further so I pull into the local drive up coffee vendor (you thought I needed gasoline, didn't you?).

Being that I'm trying to be all eco-chic this year, I even have my own little coffee cozy in the glovebox.  My paper cup is adorned with my cute "hot joe jacket" and I'm off again.

Confession! I finally caved and bought a Minivan

If you know me, I'm not one to pass up on calling a spade a spade.  I'm not fond of people who can't ever admit that in the end, they were wrong.  I won't be that person.

Readers, this is my mea culpa moment.  I was wrong, please tell the 20something year old version of myself that it did not take hell freezing over for me to finally be wooed by a minivan.  In fact, it was utter frustration in my early forties that clinched the deal.  Not just my frustration, but the frustration of every passenger that has ever attempted to get to the third row of my previous car.

Truck Party: Tonka Chuck & Friends Big Air Dare DVD (+ Giveaway)

Looking for the perfect Truck themed birthday party for your little man(men) or perhaps just an excuse to celebrate the new Chuck & Friends Big Air Dare DVD release?  Maybe you are looking to turn up the volume on an upcoming playdate?  A package of goodies sent to us by Hasrbo with this latest DVD release inspired us to throw an impromptu celebration ourselves the other day.

Skip Hop Bento Mealtime Kit

I'm a big fan mealtime organizers that are made to help with the baby stages but will remain useful well beyond that age.  The Skip Hop Bento Mealtime Kit is no exception to this rule.  It works wonderfully well as a snack and meal organizer for the baby & toddler foods, but can also be utilized by an older child heading off to school.

Pantene 2-in-1 shampoo & conditioners

I recently was sent some samples of Pantene’s NEW 2-in-1 shampoo & conditioner formulas.  The new 2-in-1 collection offers custom solutions for several unique hair needs.  Each option includes a cleanser and moisturizer that is applied in one simple step.  (And with the hectic days a lot of us mommies tend to have, one less step in our daily beauty routine is a welcome one.)

Earth Hour - LogoOn March 26, 2011, turn off your lights at 8:30 pm for Earth Hour, a worldwide collective display of commitment to protect the one thing that unites us all - the planet.  This year go beyond the hour by pledging to not only turn your lights off for an hour but by also committing to make ongoing changes in your daily life to reduce you and your families environmental impact on the planet.

Looking for ways to involve the kids in the Earth Hour initiative?  The Earth Hour organization has appointed the globally loved animated character Pocoyo as the first Global Kids’ Ambassador of Earth Hour, Beyond the Hour.  Pocoyo will reach out to millions of preschool-aged fans across the globe, fostering “Learning through Laughter,” to inform children about environmental issues.

Parent and their caregivers can find a fun activity book, promo, screensavers and wallpaper at http://www.pocoyo.com/earth_hour_2011.html .

MorningStar Farms Veggie Corn Dogs

MorningStar Farms recently sent us a package of their Veggie Corn Dogs to sample.  This meatless version of the corn dog is dipped in corn batter and served on a stick, just like the original American classic.  A benefit of the veggie version by MorningStar Farms was the fact it contained less fat than the traditional meat-containing corn dogs.

My twins ate them with a side of ketchup and didn't seem to notice they were any different than other corn dogs they have previously had.  I also tried one and was pleased with the taste.  The corn batter is just the right amount of sweet for me.

I'll definitely be looking for these at my local grocer.  I'm always gathering a few last minute meal solutions in the freezer for times when someone's hectic schedule means they need to eat on the run.  As a Catholic, these are also a perfect fit for meatless Friday lunches during Lent.

Fellow seniors Mei (Yin Chang) and Tyler (De’Vaughn Nixon) harbor secrets, while others face all the insecurity and anticipation that surrounds one of high school’s most seminal events. There are hundreds of nights in high school, but there’s only one “Prom.” Featuring an emerging ensemble cast and a powerful soundtrack, “Prom” hits theaters April 29, 2011.

Musings from the Youngest

The twins waiting around at a Dance Competition

Being the youngest two of five, our twins are constantly traveling all over the place as we transport and watch their older siblings do their thing.  Last weekend was a marathon of dance and this weekend they'll be hitting a H.S. track meet.

No need to take pity on our little men, they have it pretty good getting to go all these places and meet all sorts of people.  They tend to make friends where ever they go and if not, they always have each other.

They take away some pretty amusing things from their many varying experiences.  Football season with oldest brother JC  had Cormac frequently asking "You tackle people, JC?"  to which JC always explained "only in football, Mac."  JC's success in track has them asking lots of questions too.  "You eat all your breakfast and win in race?"  "Sure" agrees JC.  JC came in 2nd & 3rd in events last weekend.  "Did you eat all your breakfast?" was the big question.

There is much to pick up at the dance competitions and conventions too.  Cordelia's main love is Hip Hop and the twins will have much to thank her for later.  They will likely be the only ones in preschool who can not only sing the "ABC song" but can also rattle off lyrics like "she shot me, she shot me, bang bang, she shot me" or even "Applebottom Jeans, boots with the fur".

It's not all observations either, their amazing ability to parrot people has inspired 2nd oldest brother Hayden to teach them what to say at events.  They had phrases like "you jump like John Wall" all set for Hayden's basketball games.

So don't worry about those younger siblings being dragged around endlessly.  I think ultimately they collect invaluable tidbits of wisdom, coolness, and "go with the flow".

Hershey Company’s Easter Candy Collection (+ Giveaway)

It is no secret that I'm a huge fan of Hershey's and their clever Easter collection is just adds to the many reasons why it's a love affair certain to last forever.

If you ever contemplated the best way to break apart and eat your chocolate Easter bunny you are going to love this!  Hershey is making a new 2 ounce Solid Milk Chocolate Bunny called Snapsy.  Snapsy the Bunny breaks apart into neat, just right-sized pieces like a Hershey's chocolate bar – so sharing and neatly saving part for later is a snap.  Chocolate coated clever points from me on that one!

The Puzzle Pod (Review & Giveaway)

Puzzles are a terrific item for kids.  They can enhance cognitive skills, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and even social skills.  The downside is that they can be a real chore for parents in terms of containing all the pieces.

A Visit to Kohl Children's Museum (Glenview, IL)

This weekend I spent the entire Saturday up in the Wheeling area for my daughter's company dance convention / competition.  Hubby was out of town so I had our 2.5 year old twin boys with me along with one of our older sons (Hayden age 12) as backup.  Since Cordelia had to be to the Westin Chicago North Shore by 9 and wouldn't need us again until around 2, we had a fair amount of time to kill in the area.

So it was off to the Kohl Children's Museum which fortunately opens at 9:30am on Saturdays. Using our ACM membership which I've mentioned before, our admission to the museum for the 4 of us was free.

Arriving right at opening was perfect, as it allowed the boys to get started on the car care area practically by themselves.  This area was a favorite including tracks for toy cars and giant car seats kids can strap mom and dad into.  Also in the area is a car that can be pretend driven, washed, and repaired.  Older brother Hayden led the way showing the boys how to change the tires.  Favorite thing in this section has to be the Kid Car Wash.

After coaxing the boys away from the Car Care Area we shopped the pretend Dominick's store which is complete with mini shopping carts, baskets, and wind up conveyor belts at the checkout.  We also visited Doll Daycare, Cooperation station, WaterWorks, and the Play Library.

The Pet Vet was another favorite area.  The boys donned white coats and stethoscopes in this exhibit before tending to lots of stuffed pets.  I think Cormac in particular could have saved the kitties all day long.  Both boys also loved working the pretend Potbelly Sandwich Works.  Hayden and I grabbed a table and they served us up some great looking plastic sandwiches as well as pretend beverages to wash them down.

The twins had been up since 5am and were starting to fade so we called it quits before seeing a few more of the exhibits in favor of lunch and a nap.  Next visit we still have Adventures in Art, All About Me, City on the Move, and Hands on House on our list to checkout.

We headed to the nearby Glen Town Center to visit Noodles for Lunch, but there is a Cosi right in the museum building.  While there we spotted a place called Make-A-Messterpiece that we will be putting on our list of "Going Places" to visit next time we head up this way.  It appears to be some sort of creative kids studio where messes are expected.

What lurks beneath the couch cushions?

Lately, we'd been eating meals in a few makeshift places since our kitchen was under renovation and our dining room was acting as a holding area.  Now that the kitchen is complete minus some painting and trim work, it is back to meals in the dining room and kitchen.

With our usual routine a "go", I decided I should deep clean the family room coffee table area including the big red sectional couch.  Cleaning the couch is always interesting.  One would never sit so relaxed on that sectional each night if they knew what likely lurked beneath them.  Yesterday I uncovered all sorts of treasures including a dirty sock, food wrappers, several random toy parts, crumbled crackers, cereal bits, and even the top to my blender.

So, what's the most unusual item you've ever found beneath or in your couch?

Progress Report on the Kitchen Remodel

We are almost done.  Once we are, I will reveal several photos of the project along with sources for the items including the quatrefoil (arabesque) white tile backsplash and the black porcelain tiled floors.  However, I couldn't resist posting a sneak peak of our progress.  Still to be finished is additional painting, lots of trim and molding work (as evident from the photo), and the hanging of a double pendant light over our reworked etsy found buffet.

From this picture, you'll note the counters are done, the tiling is done, the farm sink & new faucet are installed, and the replacement doors under the now lower sink are hung.  More soon!

Puristics

Is it a coincidence that right around my 41st birthday, a request to check out Totally Ageless Night Recovery Cream, Totally Ageless Advanced Skin Rejuvenating Lotion, and Totally Ageless Intensive Eye Treatment by a company called Puristics landed in my box?  Or is someone trying to tell me something?
