Listerine Family Oral Care Challenge #healthyhabits

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, so now's the time to talk about teeth.  The other day I participated in a 30-minute live chat with LISTERINE oral care experts before kicking off a mini oral care challenge in our home.  Here's a few tidbits I wanted to share:

Tips for your kids from Dr. Kaneta Lott, DDS (pediatric dentist):

  1. Make oral care fun (e.g., make it a game; brush, floss and rinse to music; etc).
  2. Reward their behavior (e.g., give gold stars for good oral care).
  3. Show, don’t tell – make oral care a family affair.
  4. Involve them in their own oral care routine by providing products like LISTERINE® Smart Rinse, which can make the daily routine more fun, provides 12-hour cavity protection for kids and strengthens teeth 99 percent better than brushing alone.

I'ved found that the making oral care fun tip is the key with my youngest two boys. When brushing their teeth we often make a game of brushing away the creatures lurking inside their mouths such as raccoons, skunks, and ground hogs. Inspired by the info shared at the Listerine Chat, we've added rinsing to the kids daily oral care routine as an added "weapon" to fight the creatures that lurk near teeth.

Cool looking dental products with favorite characters on them really help to build the excitement too. I'm all for brushing out the "yuckies" with a reach Batman tooth brush or washing them away with the help of Listerine Phineas and Ferb Smart Rinse.

Watch for a follow-up post on how our new routine went as well as a fun Listerine Giveaway.
