Going Places: Shrek The Musical @ Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier

This past weekend Chicago Shakespeare Theater offered our family a chance to view Shrek The Musical in their Courtyard and we had an amazing time.  If you are looking for an excuse to be in Chicago with the entire family between now and September 1st, Shrek The Musical is the perfect one.

Everyone loved the show and it's rather historical for both of our 5 year old twin boys, our 12 year old daughter, and our nearly 15 year old son to all fully agree on something.  It didn't hurt that there isn't a bad seat in the house at this intimately sized Theater, nor did it hurt that heading to a show at this location means one has a chance to checkout the always impressive sights and sounds that are Navy Pier.  Additionally, I noticed the staff of Chicago Shakespeare Theater seems to exude a genuine excitement about this show and after seeing it, we know why.

Having seen the Shrek movies, we all generally knew the basics on this heartwarming tale, but seeing it comes to life in this magical melodic form made it completely new to us all.  The music and dialect presented by this talented cast greatly enchanted us all and any concerns I had about how my 5 year olds would do at their very first musical experience were gone within 2 minutes.  They adored it.  In fact, the twin sitting closest to me kept whispering things like "This is Amazing" "That's so Funny" and "I Never Want this to End".

The whole family was talking about it long after the 75 minute show was over, in fact they still are talking about it.  This morning the other twin asked when we can go again.  Tickets are $18–$25—with special discounts for groups of 10 or more. Plus CST patrons save 40% on parking on Navy Pier, making Shrek The Musical the perfect start to a day of summer fun!

Disclosure:  Tickets to the performance were provided to aid in this review.  All opinions expressed are my own.
